Baseball writing, European style September 7, 2007

I ran across by accident the web site for the Euro Baseball 2007 tournament, which serves as the qualifier for the 2008 Olympics. It’s interesting to see how ballgames are covered when they take place in Europe and are written (presumably) by someone for whom English is a second language. Take, for example, this sentence recapping a game between the Spanish team and a visiting squad from UCLA: “Alejandro Freire who promoted a ‘home run’, in the fourth entry, made 3 runs that were key for the match (7-2).” Yeah, that’s not exactly how we’d write it here in the US…
